The word in the center simply reads, "GOD". The tracks (a total of 6, each approximately 35 minutes in length) are translations of the Koran (or Quran) by Egyptian religious leaders. I bought this CD near bookseller's row.
Recently I spoke at an independent media festival and I brought up the issue of religion. I said for Karl Marx religion is the opiate of the masses. But for me, religion is the temporary visa to the masses. Without the discourse of religion, I argued, Iraqis would not have trusted me as intimately as they did in our dialogues about food, suffering, peace, and above all, justice. No one said a word. The phrase "social leper" came to mind.
